About us
Welcome to The Milk Room, our shared studio nestled at the foot of Eggardon Hill, an Iron Age hill fort, in stunning West Dorset. As well as our individual practice and teaching, we also run joint workshops and are building a wood fired kiln together.
Katy Shields
After graduating from Norwich University of the Arts with a BA (hons) in Visual Studies and MA in Communication Design I began to explore clay as a medium and eventually set up a small studio teaching myself in between looking after my young children.
I make strong, considered forms - sometimes functional, sometimes sculptural - and nearly always in clay. I also teach weekly pottery classes and am available for 1:1 sessions and workshops.

My work consists of functional forms for using everyday. Handmade vessels can enhance a connected response with our things, sharing food from a large bowl, drinking from your favourite mug brings about ritual, comfort and hopefully joy to our lives.
After studying Contemporary Craft at Falmouth university I worked with two potters in Cornwall and learnt to throw pots. I now live in Devon and work from our studio, surrounded by a community of other makers. I have been teaching pottery for over eight years
